Had to do it

NOTE FROM XO:
We have had almost 100 visitors to this post since this morning! Who are you? Where are you coming from? Please comment and let us know!

Everyone else is making grand proclamations regarding the shit they want to try and accomplish this year in the form of resolutions.

I, being the Hamelin rat that I am, must follow this particular Piper.

You remember, Lyra, of course...

SO!

That said,

I'd like to line out my resolution.

Yep.

Just the one.

Allow me to first explain WHY I'm putting this out here on the web:
If I make a public (yes, dear three readers, you are the public. or my sister. whatever.) declaration of my intention, it's harder for me to go back on it. Maybe I'll actually follow through on something.

I'm not really holding my breath, and you should all just be prepared to be wholly disappointed in me.

Alright, the resolution:

I resolve to do at LEAST three
crafty/creative/arty things each week.

Sounds simple, right? Well, I suppose it really is. In theory.

What I have is a walk-in closet absolutely-fucking-full-to-the-gills of craft shit. Paints, fabric, frames, glass, glue, half-finished projects, markers, pencils, paper, felt, rocks, blank canvases, etc...

I also have approximately three thousand Pinterest pins of things I'd like to do.

These two things combined should provide me at least a year's worth of projects.

Now, here are the rules:

  • I do not have to FINISH a piece for it to count as one of my three weekly items.
  • Making dinner does not count as arty.
  • There is no size limit. It can be as small as a postage stamp, or could be as large as painting my office.
  • There is no complexity limit.
  • In the event that I do not accomplish three things in one week, I must attempt it again the following week in addition to that week's work. For instance, if I only manage two projects next week, I have to complete four the following one.
  • There is no limitation on what counts as creative. It can be sewing, photography, musical, painting, drawing, lettering, writing or the like.
  • Which brings me to this: the blog, whilst sometimes creative, does not count.
  • Also, I have to post my progress on the blog. As Ian likes to remind me: "Pics or it didn't happen."
  • Further, in the event of a family vacation or emergency - and it has to be a legitimate emergency, no "I think the cat is depressed, so I must abstain from my work this week" - I am absolved for that week, even though I will attempt to make it up later.
  • Finally, this effort will be IN ADDITION to my regular household projects and duties. When I have to spend a week in the spring re-mortaring the brick outside the garage, I will also have to do something arty. Probably NOT with the bricks or mortar. Maybe with bubbles...
I think that's it from me for now. I'm going to open it up for your suggestions between now and midnight on Saturday, January 5. On Sunday, I will put together the final rules for the year. If we discover that we've over-shot or made it too easy, we can revisit.

Please comment on any considerations you think I need to make.
And no, I will not require myself to create anything pornographic once a week.

I might do it anyway, but it won't be a requirement!

Everyone who posts an idea will be entered into a random drawing for a number of projects as I complete them! First one will be on Tuesday!

I know you're out there - talk to me, dammit!!
